Jerel Eastham (Frankfurt, Germany 1981-1987)
Jerel was one of the first friends I made after moving to Germany. Jerel was one of those guys that really showed me around the town. He was fluent in german, so he was very comfortable with the area, wheras I was very intimidated by living in a foreign country. Jerel was also another partner in crime. We got into trouble, but we always had fun doing it.
Highlights I remember about Jerel:
- Playing hookey from school, and playing Atari 2600 at his house all day long.
- Trying to catch Brian on fire in the basement. (we nearly succeeded!)
- Spending hours making food coloring darts.
- Lots of hours on the playground behind his apartment.
- The box fort in the basement.
At some point in our friendship, we drifted apart. I don't really remember why, or even how it happened. I think perhaps I made a girlfriend or something. But after that...it never was the same. We bumped into each other all the way through to high school, but never said much other than "hi, how ya doing?" kinda-thing. But I still think about Jerel from time to time. I wonder how he's doing, if he's still in Germany and whatever became of him.
